The Writers of the NT Knew Jesus Was Spoken of in the Psalms

Over 300 OT prophesies were fulfilled literally in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. So when Jesus cries out on the cross, He is not only fulfilling prophesy, but He is also showing His humanity. When He cries out to the Father, “Why have you forsaken Me?” (Psalm 22) It’s because the Father separated Himself temporarily from Jesus, because the sins of the redeemed were placed on Him. This doesn’t prove as some would say, Jesus wasn’t God. It does however, prove Jesus was acting as a man, fully obedient to the will of God. This is why in the NT Jesus is referred to as the Second Adam either directly or implied (Rom 5:12-21; 1 Cor 15:22, 45-47). He did what the first Adam failed to do in His obedience. He then became the ultimate, and final sacrificial Lamb of God, to fulfill what was foretold in Scripture that God Himself would be the Savior of His people.
These Psalms are known as Messianic Psalms and here is a list of many references from the Psalms in the NT. Pretty amazing stuff! Great study to do with yourself or with others.

  1. This is why we need the Bible, and even with this evidence, we still fail, our strength is Jesus, only thru Him we can win, by being always with Him. His words guide us.
